Every July 1, Chicago’s minimum wage increases according to the Consumer Price Index or by 2.5%, whichever is lower. The minimum wage increase applies to Chicago employers with 4 or more employees.

Effective July 1, 2025, the minimum wage in Chicago increases from $16.20 per hour to $16.60 per hour.

Effective July 1, 2025, the minimum wage in Chicago for tipped employees increases from $11.02 per hour to $12.62 per hour. If a tipped worker’s wages plus tips do not equal at least the full minimum wage of $16.60 per hour, the employer must make up the difference.

Pursuant to the Minimum Wage Ordinance, employers are required to provide notice to covered employees in conjunction with a paycheck on or before July 31, 2025 of:

• Current minimum wage
• Fair Workweek (if applicable)
• Paid Leave and Paid Sick Leave

The Minimum Wage Ordinance also requires employers to post in a conspicuous place at each facility in Chicago a notice advising employees of:

• Current minimum wage
• Fair Workweek (if applicable)
• Paid Leave and Paid Sick Leave
• Wage Theft
