GCT Hosts Drive Benefitting the Period Collective

March 16, 2023

To honor Women’s History Month, Golan Christie Taglia’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is hosting a drive benefitting the Period Collective. This nonprofit organization supplies menstrual and feminine hygiene products to unhoused and low-income women and girls in the Chicagoland area.

These women and girls can suffer from period poverty, meaning they lack adequate access to menstrual products. As a result, many of them cannot attend work or school because they are unable to obtain the products necessary to comfortably get through the day. The Period Collective provides menstrual products to shelters, traditional housing facilities, food banks, schools, prisons and other organizations that work with homeless and low-income girls and women. Having access to these products helps women maintain their health and reclaim their dignity.

There are three ways to donate: through the Period Collective’s Amazon wish list, making a financial donation through their website, or donating physical products. The DEI Committee will be hosting a happy hour on March 30 culminating the drive.

In addition to acts of service and fundraising initiatives, the GCT Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee meets regularly to discuss a variety of topics, including inherent and unconscious bias, the importance of language in the workplace and tangible ways to remain committed to enriching diversity. The committee has also initiated firmwide training programs on diversity education, civility training, cultural competency training and encouraging an inclusive workplace for all.
