Our property tax attorneys offer our clients a combined total of more than 75-years of experience in this area of the law.

Recently, attorneys in Golan Christie Taglia’s Property Tax Group have been highly successful in obtaining significant tax relief for our clients based upon the severe impact that the Pandemic has had on their business operations.  Although there may have been no direct evidence demonstrating the impact the Pandemic has had on the value of real estate, we have argued that the severe impact Covid-19 has had on revenues alone, should be recognized by assessing bodies when determining the value of a property for tax purposes. This means that property owners or tenants responsible for the payment of real estate taxes, who operate service businesses such as restaurants, health clubs, movie theaters, and private day care facilities, who have experienced substantial revenue declines due to the Pandemic whether from state or municipal restrictions, or from the public’s general avoidance of their businesses, may be able to successfully obtain substantial relief from their property tax bills.  This relief may also extend to manufacturers who have had to close or operate on a reduced scale resulting from state or local restrictions, a significant loss of employees, or a breakdown in their supply chains, making it impossible to keep their doors open. Our Property Tax attorneys, have found that taxing bodies in Cook County, as well as assessors and boards of review in the collar counties, have looked favorably on this approach. This means that property owners in service businesses such as theaters, health clubs, restaurants and day care centers, as well as the owners of any other impacted "non-essential" businesses such as auto and industrial equipment rental companies or car dealerships, may also seek this relief anywhere in the greater Chicago area.
