Reminder: Deadline for Chicago-Based Employers to Provide Sexual Harassment Training Around the Corner

The June 30, 2023 deadline to complete the City of Chicago’s initial required annual sexual harassment training is around the corner.

In June 2022, the City of Chicago amended the Chicago Human Rights Ordinance to require Chicago-based employers, regardless of size, to provide 1 hour of sexual harassment training and 1 hour of sexual harassment bystander training annually for all employees, including part-time employees, short-term or temporary employees, interns, etc. The new ordinance also requires that Chicago-based employers, regardless of size, provide 1 hour of sexual harassment training annually for all managerial employees (those who supervise or manage employees).

The new ordinance defines employers as “any individual, partnership, association, corporation, limited liability company, business trust, or any person or group or persons that provides employment to one or more employees in the current or preceding calendar year and any agent of such an entity or person[,]” that are subject to the City of Chicago licensing requirements or maintain a business facility within city limits.
